Twelfth Night Celebration

It was once believed that when the Star of Bethlehem shone upon the manger, it signaled the Magi (The Three Wise Men) of the birth of the Christ child. So began the journey of the Magi to Bethlehem. As tradition goes, it took twelve days for the Magi to arrive and deliver their gifts to the Christ child. Eventually, a birth day was set at December 25. As the Faith grew, many older traditions were absorbed and incorporated. The tradition of burning a Yule log (to burn 12 days), wassailing (both a drink and toast) the apple tree (blessings for a bountiful year’s harvest, especially of apples), exchange of gifts (especially large or grand gifts on the twelfth day), kissing beneath the mistletoe, collecting twelve kisses from twelve friends, caroling and dancing (alternative forms of blessing the orchards for a bountiful new year) and the Lord of Misrule (the low become high and high become low).
